Pet Friendly Sullivan’s Island

Spending time enjoying a relaxing and refreshing getaway to South Carolina’s scenic Sullivan’s Island is always something for travelers to look forward to. That said, if you have the chance to travel with your favorite pet at your side, the experience is that much more meaningful! The good news is Sullivan’s Island is an extremely pet friendly place to adventure with your furry friend when you’re looking to maximize the getaway fun. The following are just a few of the many activities and attractions you can enjoy with your canine companion by your side during your next visit.

Beach Rules for Sun Seekers and Their Pets

Many beaches across Sullivan’s Island welcome people and pets alike but there are rules in place that are good to be aware of that keep wildlife safe and the area pristine and enjoyable. You’ll need to obtain a dog permit from Town Hall if you plan to enjoy time on the sand with your pet. With that in hand, you’re free to roam the shorelines off-leash between 5:00 am and 10:00 am May 1 through September 30. Dogs aren’t allowed on the beaches from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm but can be on-leash on the beach from 6:00 pm until 5:00 am. Winter hours are enforced between October 1 and April 30. During this time dogs can be off-leash from 5:00 am until noon on the beaches. On-leash hours run from noon until 5:00 am.

Take a Ride on the Charleston Water Taxi

If you and your dog are travelers who love spending time on the water, you’ll want to make sure to include a ride on the Charleston Water Taxi during your Sullivan’s Island getaway. This ferry service is pet friendly as long as dogs are leashed and offers rides to four different locations in Charleston. It’s a great way to take in your surroundings, enjoy time on the waves, and spot dolphins alongside your four-legged friend.

Try Dog-Friendly Tours

A great local company to partner up with when you’re heading to Sullivan’s Island with your dog is Bulldog Tours. Headquartered at 18 Anson Street, this company specializes in pet friendly sightseeing adventures that focus on historic spots, hidden treasures, and beautiful architecture alike. As long as your dog remains leashed, they can go where you go and get in on the sightseeing fun too.

Pet Friendly Restaurants in Town

When cravings come calling, you don’t have to leave your dog behind. Instead, you’ll find Sullivan’s Island has plenty of pet friendly restaurants to enjoy with open-air patios where you and your pooch can settle in for savory moments. Poe’s Tavern, Sullivan’s Fish Camp, Dunleavy’s Pub, Beardcat’s Sweet Shop, and Home Team BBQ Sullivan’s Island all make the list of top pet friendly eateries that you’re going to want to be sure to enjoy while you’re here.
