4 Reasons to Visit Charleston in the Winter

If you’re from the Midwest, Northeast, or another cold winter region and have grown tired of annual frigid weather, this might be the year to take a break. Many people may think of places like Florida or Mexico to find refuge from the chill, but Charleston in the winter has many advantages over those more expensive and busy destinations. But if you’re still on the fence about where to escape the ice and snow, Charleston Coast Vacations is here to help you weigh the benefits of a getaway in our beloved seaside city.

Fewer Tourists in Charleston during Winter

As proud as we are to say Charleston is a popular summer destination, we’re equally happy for those visiting us to escape winter on their home turf. Charleston’s attractions are open year-round, but with the extra flexibility granted by fewer tourists, finding restaurant and activity reservations is much easier. Also, having fewer travelers during the “off-season” means more open space on the local beaches and less traffic throughout the city.

Charleston’s Mild Winters

One of the best things about being on the coast is the ocean air. It’s warm enough in the winter to keep the snow at bay, but at the same time, it doesn’t get overly hot during that time. From January through March, the daily temperatures average about 60 degrees, perfect for anyone used to a deep freeze during that time. Usually, the chilliest temperatures you’ll experience in Charleston in the winter go no lower than 40 degrees in the mornings and evenings, so as long as you have a sweater or a light jacket, you’ll be good to go!

Charleston in Winter is More Affordable

If you’re a budget-savvy traveler needing more sunshine and warmth, Charleston is a cost-effective option. Tropical and international destinations have their appeal but tend to be much more expensive because so many other people are there. Also, many of our local attractions lower their prices during winter because of less demand. These aspects readily make Charleston an excellent winter holiday destination.

Wildlife and the Great Outdoors

Many people may not realize that Charleston is an epicenter of urban outdoor recreation. And with less heat and humidity than the spring and summer, winter makes a lot of sense for all types of enthusiasts. Whether you’re a bird watcher, angler, kayaker, or surfer, Charleston in the winter is a winning proposition.
