When Should I Renovate My Vacation Home?

The simple answer to the question is: as soon as you can! Renovations are best done during the offseason when guests are not disturbed. This way, your vacation home is in pristine condition for peak season.

What Trends Are in Style?

We have found the days of kitschy beach decor and second-hand furniture are behind us. Guests are looking for modern, updated, and top-of-the-line amenities for their vacations. The main areas to focus on are the kitchen and the bathrooms. Both will really show guests the upgrades you’ve made.

Renovated kitchens are so important for guests when booking their vacation. Guests opt for a vacation rental so the family has the option to cook meals in the house and not eat out for every meal. So, kitchens with sleek, MODERN APPLIANCES stand out, especially if these kitchens have beautiful custom cabinets and countertops. Little touches like a CHALKBOARD WALL or a built-in drink fridge can make or break a guest’s decision to rent the property.

A renovated bathroom shows guests that the homeowner cares about the property. Clean lines, TILED SHOWERS and TUBS, and WALK-IN SHOWERS really grab guests’ attention. For properties with more than one bathroom, it is important to remember that families, possibly with young children, will be vacationing at the home. Families with young children often look for a vacation rental that has at least one tub in the property, so kids can still take their evening baths.

Where Can I Find Inspiration?

So many of the vacation homes on our roster are perfect examples of all the trends happening today when it comes to decorating a beach house rental! We’ve compiled a gallery of pictures for you to look through and get some inspiration for your own renovation.

You’ll Love These 6 Isle of Palms Restaurants!

Below, you’ll find some of the best Isle of Palms restaurants. They are all sure to satisfy your crazings, but Charleston is known as a culinary epicenter. If you choose to branch outside of Isle of Palms, there are amazing restaurants in Shem Creek, Sullivan’s Island, Folly Beach, and Downtown Charleston.

1. Long Island Cafe

The combination of an amazing menu and elegant, coastal decor make Long Island Cafe one of the best Isle of Palms restaurants by far. It has been cooking up unbelievable seafood, chicken, and fresh pasta dishes since 1986. Browse the menu, and don’t forget to check out their specials! They change every day and will keep you coming back over and over again. Our last tip is to make sure you save room for dessert. Indulge in decadent cakes, pies, and even warm bread pudding.

Local Tip: They have an incredible wine selection so be sure to ask your server what pairs best with your dinner. They can get busy on the weekend, so you might want to make a reservation in advance.

2. Acme Lowcountry Kitchen

For seafood with a Southern flare, head to Acme Lowcountry Kitchen. The goal of this establishment is to keep things upscale yet casual– everyone is welcome! The menu is full of fresh, local ingredients and sustainable seafood. They specialize in shrimp and grits, a Lowcountry classic, with at least six different homemade variations!

Local Tip: Their servings are large so make sure you show up hungry! They fill up quickly, so we recommend making a reservation at least a few days in advance to ensure you don’t miss out on this delicious spot.

3. Papi’s Taqueria

If you’re craving some delicious tacos, head to Papi’s Taqueria. Apart from the kids’ menu, you’ll only find starters, sides, tacos, drinks, and one dessert on their menu. They keep it small, so they can focus on what they do best: make tacos. Start out with some chips and dip; then, study the menu for which tacos you’re going to order. They have a few permanent options as well as daily taco specials.

Local Tip: If you have some vegetarians in your group, their Gotta Go Gringo taco gives you the choice of black beans or grilled veggies. It’s sure to satisfy even the meat-eaters.

4. Coda Del Pesce

Coda Del Pesce makes an excellent date night or celebration dinner with the family. This Isle of Palms restaurant serves delicious Italian seafood dishes prepared with fresh, locally or sustainably caught seafood. Enjoy homemade pasta, gnocchi, and more with a coastal twist! They also offer some of the best oceanfront restaurants on IOP.

Local Tip: You’ll need to book your reservation at least a week in advance or more during the summer. If you’re wanting to eat outside, you’ll have to book several weeks in advance.

5. Sea Biscuit Cafe

If you’re looking for one of the best Isle of Palms restaurants for an excellent breakfast spot, head to Sea Biscuit Cafe! Here, you’ll find everything from classic breakfast dishes to Lowcountry specialties. We recommend their omelets, French toast, and of course, the biscuits. It’s the perfect place to fuel up before heading out for a day of fun! It’s the perfect place to start a beach day full of activities on Isle of Palms.

Local Tip: This restaurant is cash only, so make sure you visit the ATM outside first.

6. The Windjammer

Also known as a local music venue and a hot spot for Lowcountry events, The Windjammer is practically a landmark on Isle of Palms. It’s a great place to grab a casual bite of bar fare and sit on their large deck overlooking the Atlantic with a cold drink. Their fried pickles and wings are favorites among locals.

Local Tip: When it comes to nightlife, The Windjammer always has some going on. Be sure to check out their events page for great live music and unique local events. Because of some events, dinner may not be available that day.

What Are the Best Sullivan’s Island Restaurants?

Sullivan’s Island restaurants are very popular, especially during high tourist seasons. You can expect long wait times during evening weekends. We recommend arriving early or calling ahead if you have a large group. Grab a local beer or cocktail from the bar while you’re waiting and soak in the beautiful Carolina sky!

1. The Obstinate Daughter

The Obstinate Daughter is a local favorite and one of the best Sullivan’s Island restaurants. The nautical-themed interior gives it a relaxed yet elegant ambiance that you won’t find anywhere else in the area. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but their pizzas and pasta are the top of the line. Don’t forget to try their Geechie fries as well!

Local Tip: You’ll want to book your reservation here as far in advance as possible because this place books up months in advance during summer. However, that should be enough to convince you of how good it really is!

2. Mex 1 Coastal Cantina

Tacos and award-winning margaritas are the highlights of this Sullivan’s Island hangout. Mex 1 Coastal Cantina offers fresh Baja Mexican cuisine in a bright and vibrant setting. Walk straight from the beach to your table in minutes and savor fresh guacamole, bangin’ shrimp tacos (a favorite), and a jalapeño margarita.

Local Tip: They often host events like trivia or comedy nights. Be sure to check out their events schedule for some fun within walking distance to your beach house.

3. Poe’s Tavern

If you’re searching for a casual place to grab one of the best burgers in the Charleston area, look no further than Poe’s Tavern. This eclectic local dig features quirky décor centered around poet Edgar Allan Poe and his many famous works. Trust us; you won’t want to miss out on one of their juicy award-winning burgers with a delicious side of fries and a local brew. For vegetarians, they also make arguably the best black bean burger in the Lowcountry.

Local Tip: If one of the reasons you love Charleston or want to visit is the history, this is the restaurant for you. It is a truly unique establishment that people from across the state know and love.

4. Home Team BBQ

Delicious smoked meats steal the show at Home Team BBQ. This is our favorite of the three local joints around Charleston, and it’s the perfect place to indulge in a rack of ribs, brisket, pulled pork, sausage, and a variety of savory sides with an ice-cold beer.

Local Tip: Of course, Home Team cooks up some tasty BBQ, but locals know they make even better drinks! You can’t go wrong with any of their cocktails, but the Game Changer truly lives up to its name. It’s a sweet and flavorful frozen beverage that will have you thinking you’re in the Caribbean.

5. The CO-OP

The Co-op is one of the most amusing Sullivan’s Island restaurants. They offer quick bites for breakfast, lunch, and dinner like salads and sandwiches throughout the day, but their frosé (frozen rosé) is what draws people in time and time again. Grab a cup to go with your sandwich, or head there to pick up an entire bottle for dinner!

Local Tip: Like we already mentioned, you have to try the frosé! It’s the perfect beach beverage. There offer great options for vegetarians like the veggie sammie and Caprese panini.

6. The Longboard

With a light and healthy seafood menu, The Longboard has become the perfect addition to the Sullivan’s Island culinary scene. Executive Chef Will Fincher makes a point to cook with fresh, local seafood and ingredients. The menu features a raw bar, craft cocktails, and a few but delicious options for entrees.

Local Tip: We recommend visiting during their Oyster Hours. Every day from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., they have a great deal on their raw and grilled oysters plus some happy hours specials on drinks.

Where Is the Parade?

The Mount Pleasant Christmas Parade spans about 1.2 miles down Coleman Boulevard in Mount Pleasant. It starts at Live Oak Drive traveling south and ending at the intersection of WestColeman and Patriots Point Road. You may sit along the road or get a spot on the bleachers that have been set up for the parade! The road closes for the parade, so you’ll have more than enough room to set up along the side.

When Is the Parade?

This year’s parade marks its 26th year and is scheduled for Sunday, December 12, 2021. The parade starts at 5:30 p.m. and goes until 8:00 p.m., but you are welcome to show up early! All roads are closed at 5:00 p.m. to allow people to get ready for the fun.

How Long Does It Last?

The parade lasts for about two and a half hours. You’ll want to make sure you’re there a little early, so you can tailgate with the crowd and watch the fireworks that mark the start of the parade.

What Should I Bring?

Don’t worry about packing a ton for the parade, but make sure you are prepared. Here are our recommendations:

  • Folding chairs – If you don’t want to be on the bleachers, folding chairs are a little more comfortable! You are able to set these up along the parade route.
  • Blankets and extra layers – As the sun starts to go down, it gets a little chilly. Take a blanket or two, a scarf, and maybe even some mittens depending on the weather.
  • Drinks and snacks – Tailgating the Mount Pleasant Christmas Parade is a tradition in our area! We recommend coming a little early, setting up, and getting to know your neighbors. Warm apple cider, hot chocolate, or coffee will keep you toasty during the parade. Or, you are welcome to get food and drinks at any of the restaurants located on the parade route.
