4 Reasons to Explore Charleston in February

Experience More, Pay Less

Because February is outside of Charleston’s busiest season, visitors will find lower vacation villa rates that allow them to stay longer and pay less for the overall experience. That means indulging in more of what Charleston has to offer while only paying a fraction of what you might have to during the summer months. It’s truly a win, win!

Fewer Crowds

Traveling to Charleston in February is a great way to enjoy the same Charleston offerings while bypassing the high volume of travelers seen during peak season. There are undeniable advantages to enjoying the city without the hassle of crowded restaurants, long lines, and other tourists. We know you’ll appreciate the ease of making reservations at your favorite restaurants, finding a quiet spot on the beach for a picnic, and visiting your top bucket list items! You’ll be able to create the Charleston itinerary that you truly want without the limitations of other travelers in the area.

Mild Temperatures

The sweltering temperatures of Charleston summer often hinder travelers’ ability to fully enjoy their stay. The Holy City is one that appreciates the outdoors, and, with the city’s mild winter climate, you’ll find more comfortable temperatures to enjoy your stay. Even on colder days, there’s still plenty of wonderful activities to enjoy during your time here.

Exciting Festivities

There’s always something going on around the city! From live music and festivals in Marion Square to special events and festivities, February has a myriad of happenings to excite any traveler. February in Charleston boasts some of the locals’ favorite events of the year, including the Southeastern Wildlife Expo and Folly Beach’s Save the Light Half-Marathon. We know you won’t want to miss out!

Day 1: Relax on the Beach

You can’t get the full Charleston experience without spending a day lounging on the beach and feeling the ocean air on your skin. While Charleston has plenty to offer outside of its beautiful beaches, Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, and Folly Beach are all shining stars of the area that truly place Charleston at the top of the list as far as fantastic vacation destinations. No matter which of Charleston’s beaches you choose, you’ll find plenty of relaxation and sun.

If you get hungry, we recommend dining at one of the cabana-style, seaside restaurants peppered along the shores at each of these beaches, such as the Windjammer on Isle of Palms where you can often find live music!

Day 2: Golfing on Isle of Palms

Grab your clubs and hit the green at these two world-class golf courses on Isle of Palms, Wild Dunes’ the Links, and the Harbor. These are some of the best courses, not only in the state but even in the southeast. These courses offer a mixture of picturesque waterway views as well as featuring Charleston’s unique vegetation. With holes right on the water, you’ll find locals waving to you from passing boats as you crack another cold one and strive for birdie. Not to mention the grand homes surrounding the courses that will surely spark a conversation of their own. It’s truly an unexplainable feeling that many golfers never forget.

Day 3: Shopping on King Street

Charleston’s downtown shopping district is known as one of the best in the state. It’s lined with boutiques and souvenir shops that are full of pieces that reflect the true heart of Charleston! The towering historic buildings originating in the 1800s offer the perfect backdrop for a day of shopping and browsing. You could even head up into North Charleston to experience the Tanger Outlets, full of many more name-brand stores.

Day 4: Appreciate the History

It’s no secret that Charleston is riddled with historic landmarks and a seemingly endless history that can be seen throughout the city. Simply admiring the incredible architecture reminiscent of the Gothic Revival is enough to keep anyone entertained for hours. The signature piazzas, brightly colored homes, and intricate detailing certainly give the town a unique charm. We recommend spending a day exploring landmarks like The Battery, Rainbow Row, and even paying a visit to the Charleston Museum of History to take in the immense history found here.

Day 5: Explore Charleston’s Many Tours

Charleston appeals to a wide variety of interests that visits can indulge in through a myriad of exciting tours around the city. For the history buff, the classic carriage tours are a must, along with visiting some of the historic homes owned by the city’s most prominent families from the 1800s.
